Bye Bye Mice – I Think, I Hope!

Well, I bought 14 mouse traps, the enclosed kind and the old fashioned kind. Both featuring the snap shut mechanism, after going to the store and seeing what was available poisoning them just didn’t make sense, the sticky kind didn’t make sense either.

So I laced them all up with peanut butter and set them. The cabinets have mouse crap everywhere which I couldn’t see that well until I looked at the pictures when I got home (I’ll save you the same disgust by not posting them). Just WOW. We will have some cleaning to do after we get rid of them. I’m amazed at how at home they were, little buggers.

I hope peanut butter still works when frozen, it’s going to be cold out tonight! Here are two shots of the 2 kinds of traps I bought.

LOL. Good hunting.

I just don't have the time to reset traps. You might be AMAZED at how many you trap. The DCON poison makes them thirsty so they usually go outside looking for water. They die quickly after drinking. Only occasionally will u find one still inside, but it can happen.

PS. Next time the "wife" wants you to escort a spider outside, just throw it in her hair....she won't ask you again...lol. maybe that is why I'm divorced?...

I used to live on the Fox River so I'm used to yearly mouse invasions. I'm hoping now that all food is gone we'll get them all in one batch.

If not they're cheap enough and I have until March. :)

The wife has no problem picking up spiders herself, which is cool. So she knows if she isn't around, they're going to spider heaven. :)

Wow-14 traps. It is going to be like a war zone there. Good luck and hope you get a good body count :)

Body count, now that's funny! I'm actually hoping there isn't that many but considering the poop I cleaned up, the body count is going to be high. :)

Hopefully you wore a dust mask and eye protection and soaked all that mouse crap down with bleach spray (Clorox cleanup) before attempting to clean it up.

Mouse crap contains some rather nasty and deadly bacteria, the worst of which is the hantavirus.

Hi Erik,
It took a long time for your blog to show up on my reader!! Regarding the mice, do you have a cat? That usually helps. I had a funny yet scary experience with the sticky traps many years ago ( 28 yrs.) we had the traps around the house one of which was a sticky one behind the couch. Well wouldn't you know it my two year old was walking behind the couch (this never happened before) and she stepped on it. It was stuck on her foot and I freaked out!
I was afraid that I would rip her skin off. But it came off just fine!
Good Luck! Love Di ♥

Matt,

Nope, no mask, I just cleaned up what I could but I will wear a mask when I go back to clean up the dead ones and what they left behind.

Good points, thanks.

Diana,

My wife has a cat ;) and it's just about useless unless being cute is counted.

I can imagine stepping onto a sticky trap for a mouse would be scary, thankfully it takes a lot more to stick to a kid than a mouse! :)

Be sure and give us a mouse update. Hope you catch all of them. We have never had a mouse in the RV. When we had a house we had a couple and used D-Con. Bad idea - they died under the stove and behind a paneled wall - gross.

Will do, should be going up there this Sunday.
