Hunting Hawk

While going for a walk today at the campground a hawk dropped out of the sky and scooped up a chipmunk. It happened maybe about 10ft away. I just happened to be looking in the right direction when the hawk landed and took off again. We could hear the chipmunks cries as the hawk took off.

Ronda was horrified while I was in awe of of it. I watched the hawk fly off with the chipmunk in its talons and while I know the chipmunk met its end I couldn’t help but admire the hawk. It was a perfect weekend, well, except for the Bears losing…

Eh, better than what the hawks do in my parent's back yard.

They pounce down and snatch the doves, then rip them apart and eat them right there.

It was an awesome sight, not something you see every day. Now if they ripped their prey apart right there, that would be something else, oy.

I have seen this many times right around my house. Ever creature for himself survival of the fittest. It used to upset me but now I understand their needs.

Hi Erik, you can keep the hawks over there. I have baby chicks on the ground here. They will go to my daughter's home next week. I do love to watch hawks though. We used to have a Red Tail hawk visit regularly at the farm in Kentucky. He was beautiful!10409

They'll go after dogs too. I had a friend walking her small dog on a leash and a hawk tried to get the dog. Fortunately, she jerked the leash in time and saved the dog.
