Friday 8/31/12 Vacation Preparation – Detail The Filthy Monster

The RV sits under walnut tree’s at Blackhawk leaving the top of the rig filthy, not just a little bit filthy but nearly black with whatever walnut trees drop. I should have taken a before picture of the AC unit and vent covers, ick… My family used to own a 28ft aft cabin Wellcraft boat, that was hard to clean, but it was nothing compared to the almost 7 hours I put into cleaning the entire roof and exterior of the rig. I also power washed the entire front of the house!

By the time I was done I had soaked through my clothing completely, it was 96f with the sun blazing down so I was thankful of the wind hitting me hard enough to splash the rinse water back at me and cooling me off. The roof is cleaner than when we bought it and just climbing the ladder to take this picture took a lot of effort, my arms were numb and shaky!

We packed up the rig and drove to Geneseo, we of course brought rain with us because we can’t go to Geneseo without it raining at least once! It’s now Saturday and it’s raining and it’s nice and cool outside. We’re watching the movie “White Noise” and then heading to the store to find me some walking shoes and to get supplies for the next 8 days.

Have a great Labor Day holiday everybody!

Aha, I see you finally got up on the roof! Good job! Are you free to camp for the next 8 days? I hope so!

Good job on the clean up. White is the way to go to keep the heat out. Trees are lovely for shade but make a mess for sure.

Great job on the roof. I'm curious as to what you used to clean the roof? Was it one of the chemical cleaners RV stores sell or some other household cleaner?

TexCyn - Yep, we're camping for the next 8 days! Whoohoo!

Thanks Van Dweller!

Rick, I used Joy dishwashing liquid and my 3,000 PSI power washer, it took much longer than it should have but it came out pretty good.

That looks great Erik.
Want to do mine next?
Nest spring I will have the roof done and put a coat of elasta something or other. Had boxes made to cover the a/c and sky lights. Its always something isn't it?

Hey Erik :), don't feel too bad, I gave myself a good sunburn on my shoulders and top of my head (The areas where my farmers tan is not), this past weekend.

Gonna probably add to it a bit over the coming week as I ready the rig to start your direction :).

Hey Matt, let me know where you're going in Illinois ok?

I'm in Geneseo and there were several truck campers this weekend!

With luck I'll be reaching Illinois around the tail end of this month, Dawn flies in on the 30th.

Right now, may end up staying at the KOA in Chebanse, provided they have a reasonable weekly rate, otherwise I may end up at the local State Parks near Kankakee.

We'll be traveling up to Chicago on more than one day to visit the museums, Navy Pier, etc.. etc.. This is Dawn's first time flying (Into O'Hare, the poor woman) and her first time in Chicago.
