Putting Together The PDI

I have the PDI list put together but won’t send it to the dealer until we have a yay or nay regarding financing.

I took a picture of all the tires DOT codes and the tire code dates are as follows. All 4 tires were manufactured either the 12th or 13th week of 2001. That’s right, 2001!!  Disappointed smile  Seriously?? 11 year old tires?? How can 11 year old tires look so good?? Doesn’t matter, Ronda and I had decided not to use the tires as a negotiating tool to get other work done to the rig, however now that I checked the codes there is no way we buy this rig with the original tires on it, no way!

IMAG0557

I wrote my salesman and explained to him that we can’t accept 11 year old tires. We’ll see what they say tomorrow, plus I still have a lot more to look at to make sure this is the rig we want. The good thing is, we don’t NEED this RV, it would make a fantastic upgrade but only if the deal is worthy. The salesman has already told me they won’t replace the tires for the price they are selling the rig at, my response will be 11 year old tires are unacceptable, period. Also, I will not buy the rig without a proper inspection and I told them I’ll pay for the fuel and inspection but there is no deal without it.

We’ll see how this plays out tomorrow.

Good for you! Are they serious? They won't allow you to inspect it? 11 year old tires? Wow the nerve of some sales people!!

Sorry I was thinking that maybe the tires were put on the shelf, never really used? Just a thought.

Michelle - Sorry for the confusion, they haven't said yes or no to the inspection yet as we haven't gotten to that stage yet. We are still working on the financial part of it. I wrote him about the tires that are on the rig being original to the RV making them 11 years old.

Once we get through the financing part I will begin negotiating the rest. ;)

We looked at a dozen motorhomes last fall in the 2007-2009 year range and they all had tires that we considered too old to seriously consider. The salesmen were either uninformed or completely clueless, the sad thing is that they all eventually sold which meant either the buyers had money for replacement or they were also clueless. These same coaches needed new batteries or cleaning, sanding, & repainting of battery boxes that had severe rust from battery freeze bust. Again, the salesmen either had good poker faces or were on our idiot list. This was part of the reason we gave up to go to the truck camper route, we couldn't pay $140K for rust and outdated tires to carry all of our stuff.

Time to have him knock off the cost of a complete replacement set from the price then ;).

David, Sheila and Stella the Beagle - Agreed, when I asked him for the dates of the tires he just gave me a blank stare. I didn't have my glasses so I aimed my cell phone at what looked like the codes and took pictures so I could look them up myself. Thankfully when I get it inspected everything will be checked and if it needs batteries or anything else major it will be entered into the negotiating.

Matt - Agreed, we'll see how it goes, we're still in the financing stage.

Diana - Thanks, they claim it was a busy day today so we wait until tomorrow.
