Diabetes Medication Side Effect Issues

I have written about my Diabetes before, the medications can sometimes drive you crazy.   I am on Actos/Metformin, Onglyza (side effects all its own!), Victoza (injection), baby aspirin and high dose cinnamon. After I inject myself with the Victoza there are a few hours of nausea and over night you either spend a lot of time in the rest room (sorry for TMI) and have no way to make a 2 hour trek to work or it affects you a little and you make it to work the next day. Most of the time I make it, more often lately I haven’t.

Today was a day where I couldn’t make the 2 hour trek to work, imagine food poisoning without as much throwing up. The drive to the train station is 20 minutes, if you make it there the rest room is so disgusting there is no way you can use it for anything. You spend 10 to 15 minutes waiting for the train and when you get on you have an hour ride and again, the rest room is either too small or so disgusting it’s unusable. You end up at Union Station where you disembark and have a mile walk to the office where the only rest room is at yet another train station a block away from Union Station and you guessed it, another disgusting mess.

Each time I work from home because of this I imagine my work checking another tick mark towards firing me. Do I think he’ll fire me for working from home, I don’t think so but how many people feel safe and secure in their job, even after working there for decades? I don’t know of anybody outside of a union job that feels safe and even the long time union worker can’t feel that safe these days.

My doctors office tells me to try and make it through the nausea and side effects because it is really helping me keep my blood sugar under control. So, as of right now I have no clue how I’m going to make it to the office tomorrow since today has been a bad one and shows no signs of getting better, which is a first, typically it lasts about 1/2 a day and gets better. I have projects I’m working on and working remotely doesn’t affect them, not being at work is the problem. I support each workers system so if they have an issue and I can’t fix it remotely they could be down for the day and I pride myself in the fact I can typically get a worker back to being productive even when their computer has died completely. Can’t do that remotely.

Anyway, I posted this as a way to think it out loud and to see if any of my readers has Diabetes and being affected by their medication this way. I feel at my wits end today and I don’t want to have to tell work I won’t be there again tomorrow… but if this continues there is no physical way that I can make it to the office. I have left a message for my doctor that something has to be done and soon.
