RV Dealer Too Busy… Forgets To Call…

We dropped off the rig last Monday to get the slide topper/awning repaired and so far they haven’t touched it. Promises are made to get back to me but no response from email or voicemail. I call them and it’s like “oh yeah, meant to call, I think we might be able to get some parts, let me talk to the tech and call you back” do they call me back, no. If they find out they can’t get parts there will be more delays while they order a new awning and it will continue to sit.

This tells me we just aren’t important enough to call. They told me they were busy when we dropped it off and I told them this wasn’t a problem, and it isn’t, where I have a problem is when they tell me they’ll call with an update and then forget or don’t bother. A good service tech will always call the customer back, if he wants recurring business. Unfortunately I am learning this is the norm in the RV business. I read Dennis and Carol’s blog and find that they go through the same crap. Right now they are trying to get work completed by RV Renovators and cabinets are cut to the wrong size, the workers go on to other projects when they should be completing the one they are on. It just boggles the mind how opposite companies are run today compared to the past when satisfying the customer was paramount. Not anymore,

I digress, Scott’s RV is waiting for their turn as well so the water pump can be repaired and they are getting busier and busier. I have a feeling if I want any of this to get done I’m going to have to get upset with somebody (ask my wife, this usually works but I hate it). Let me ask you good folks in blog land why is it that honey gets you nothing but getting pissed off gets action? Ok, it’s a rhetorical question, I know the answer but feel really disappointed by it.

In my job when I tell a customer I’m going to do something, I don’t stop until I’m done or arrangements have been made that are satisfactory to my clients, period, even if I LOSE MONEY. You do it right and if you screw up you make it right. Why has this been lost today, why is mediocrity the accepted norm?

Good news is, State Farm will cover this under our comprehensive with no deductible at any dealer or RV repair center, so that is looking like a smart decision on our part when we insured this thing. I’m going to avoid calling them today, I’ll call them tomorrow and I’m sure there will be apologies and excuses but hopefully there will also be progress. Or on Saturday I’m going to go there and remove the rig and tell them I can get crappy service from where I bought the rig, I don’t need this aggravation.

I’m just a tad bit frazzled…

Well the good thing I read there is that State Farm came through for you. I'm glad to hear that because we also went with State Farm...been with them for everything for about 40 years so figured we would try them for the RV.

Sure hope things get better for you. We have had that same type of problem in the past. Maybe if you tell them you write a well read blog and all your RV friends are going to know how crappy their service is.....just wondering...

But, in this day and age, they probably don't give a you know what!!

Sorry about the terrible time you are having. It seems like it's a crap shoot out the getting a good repair shop. :(

It is what it is, last year it spent the better part of it's time in the dealer waiting. This year, if the dealer isn't ready, we're going to drive up and take it back and let the dealer know it might not be returning to them, it's their choice really.

I hear your frustration...the closer it gets to RV season, the busier they get. We had just begun our first-ever fulltime trip last summer -- the first thing that happened was our AC quit. Don't know how far you are from Bloomington, IL, but we found Cummins RV Serv Ctr there to be a great place...they were EXTREMELY busy, but the two RV guys worked their butts off to get our AC running again.

I also use State Farm for all my ins. needs they are great and I guess I have been with them for almost 20 years.
RV repair is a crap shoot. Everyone bragged about this place so I went toilet was leaking from the top it was clean water. While fixed everything else the toilet never was fixed. Went back a second time toilet never got fixed. Went back the 3rd time did some great work on most stuff, toilet really leaks bad now, they never checked the awning and it was torn so I couldn't use it. Guess where I won't ever go again.

I remember years ago while touring my oldest daughters college campus, having to yell at my youngest (Katie) to get her to listen to me. So I asked my oldest daughter, now 29, why is it that if I want the kids to listen to me, I have to yell and scream. Her reply was simple, she said "Because mom, it's the only time we take you seriously and you sort of look a little crazy!".
Keeping in mind that I have always been a polite and kind person, I can understand why I must go off on someone to get them to take me seriously!
So I guess unfortunately in this world today Erik, your just gonna have to get a bit crazy!
I feel bad for you though and was really hoping that things would go more smoothly for you. Good luck to you! Love Di ♥

Sorry you're having a hard time. I hope you are able to get things sorted out. It's good that State Farm will cover the cost so as you say you can remove the RV and take it somewhere else, maybe just mentioning that will spur them on.

Good Luck!

As hard as it would be, I think I would try and go to a different RV shop. But at least you can be working on your 'bucket list' while you wait. That must be the silver lining?
