Kindle Time…. A Post From Da Wife

A few words from the better half…

I just got a new kindle a few weeks ago and I have to say, in my opinion the kindle is like the best thing since peanut butter.  Just a few months ago, I had no idea what a “kindle” was.  All I could think of was a kindling fire when I heard the word kindle.  Then one day I was looking something up on amazon.com.  I don’t even remember what it was, but it was some kind of documentary type thing.  They had it in book form $24.99, DVD form $17.99 and on kindle $9.99.  Excuse me???  $9.99???  What is this kindle?  So I start doing some research.  I used to be an avid reader.  Couldn’t get enough.  Then my eyes started going.  I just put the books down and that was that.

The only reading I really do now is online news and articles.  I have computer glasses that are bifocals for reading also, but it’s too much of a strain to wear them for just reading.  I did get some cheap reading glasses and that helps a lot.  I read all the reviews on the kindle and became very interested.  I have a co-worker that has a kindle dx so I checked it out and was pleasantly surprised on how easy it was on the eyes.  Also very easy to use.  So, I told my husband I would like one for Christmas.  He ordered it, and I received it a few weeks ago.  (Early gift).  Absolutely LOVE IT!!  I got a beautiful leather cover for it and it fits in my purse.  (I got the smaller one).  I can take it wherever I want.  I even ordered a little light to attach to it.  I started making a list of books I want to order…and now I’m easy to shop for.  Kindle gift card!!  I’m good!!  Smile with tongue out

Now when we go RV'ing, I’ll have my little kindle and I don’t have to fill up the RV with books.  I didn’t realize how much I missed reading a good book!

Everybody has an opinion. My guess is you're just here to cause grief, it won't work so go somewhere else, thank you.

I have been looking for an e-reader. I have not been able to decide between the Kindle or the Nook.

Sounds like the Kindle has worked out well for you.

Thanks for the discussion.

Chuck and Anneke,

My wife fell in love with the natural look of the screen. It really does look like you're reading a book. We didn't choose the Nook because it's expensive and for it to produce the bright colors they talk about on they're site it has to be lit up pretty well.

That lighting can cause eye strain, the Kindle causes no more strain than reading a paper book. Also, the Wi/Fi version works just fine and was the most affordable option.

I use Kindle software on my MAC, my PC and my iPad and love the software so you have a lot of options if you forget your Kindle at home, just fire up your computer and keep reading.

Good luck!

Glad you are enjoying the Kindle. I bought one for my husband a few weeks ago. He wanted the Kindle for the same reason you stated - very easy on the eyes. The Nook looks pretty nice, but I think the Kindle is better for just plain reading...and that's the purpose of it.

I love, love, LOVE my Kindle 2 but comparing the Kindle 3 and the new color Nook is a horse of a different color. Check out this blog I wrote: http://2takinga5th.blogspot.com/2010/11/my-kindlefinding-free-books.html

In the blogs I mentioned there are several recent comparisons between the two. Might help someone make a decision.

I was never an avid reader anyway and like others have said, the eyes are not what they used to be. I started using audio books. I buy from audible.com & listen to the books. I just download them to my Sandisk MP3 player & can listen to a book. I like it because I can listen while walking, or working out. Plus, also when just relaxing. Just another option to think about.

Hi Erik,
Thanks for visiting my blog. I've been a bit out of the loop lately! I was so happy to hear your review of the Kindle. My husband is an avid reader and I want to get him one for his birthday this spring. I think it would be so nice to cut down on the amount of books that we have piling up in this place!! Thanks again!
Love Di ♥

Thanks for the responses folks. My wife is in love with her Kindle. Andy mentioned audio books, we have both tried them but they don't interest either one of us after trying a few.

If anybody is on the fence regarding the Kindle I would hop off and buy it. Most places have a decent return policy so you have nothing to lose. You can try a few sample books until you make the final decision.

Thanks everybody!
